Let’s Talk About Summer Skin!

Let’s get something straight — my body temperature runs hot and I could break into a sweat tying my shoelace. For this reason, I am by all means a Spring type of girl. I love slightly warm weather with a consistent cool breeze and LOTS of sunshine. But alas, Summer is here! And while its conditions aren’t my ideal, one fact remains undeniable — I LOVE Summer skin! I may be stuck with sweat and discomfort, but the exchange of looking like an extra rich, glowy chocolate bar is an acceptable concession. Here are four things I do to maximize my glow as well as protect my skin during this time of year.

  1. Switch to lightweight makeup! — Don’t let the heat stop your face beat! Try mixing your full coverage foundation with a facial moisturizer or oil. This will allow your skin to breathe and save you some product 😉 . Personally, I swap out foundation for a tinted moisturizer. They’re great for adding a bit of color/coverage without the weight. If you think hyperpigmentation or texture rules these products out for you, they don’t! There’s a fix for everything in the makeup world — color correct before applying and you’ll be as good as gold. Lately, I’ve been using the Pretty Fresh Tinted Moisturizer from ColourPop Cosmetics and I’ve been pleased. It has a smooth finish that minimizes the appearance of my pores and it takes well to setting powder. *Tip: Apply tinted moisturizer with your fingers. The pigment tends to be light, so you may lose a lot of that when applying with a brush or sponge.
  2. Stay hydrated! — This is a given for any time of year, but definitely now! Your body is constantly losing fluids, so drinking more water will help it continue to function optimally. This means many things, but on the beauty note, it will help balance the amount of oil your skin is producing.
  3. Let your skin breathe! — It’s hot out, so you’re definitely going to sweat. Stay as comfortable as possible by wearing breathable fabrics like linen and cotton. They’ll aid your body in keeping cool by absorbing some of that sweat and they’ll allow the breeze to pass right on through. Make it fun with bold prints, bright colors, different fits; let Summer be your playground!
  4. Wash your skin! — We won’t get into a debate on how often one should shower and/or wash their face. I’ll just note that sweat is great because it cools your skin off as it evaporates; however, dried sweat is not the move! Allowing sweat to dry on the skin can clog your pores and lead to acne flare-ups. For that reason, I recommend showering and/or washing your face at least at the end of the day or when you’re not planning on going back out.

And that’s it! No major changes, but they’re all impactful when it comes to keeping my skin as healthy as possible 🙂 . Anywhos, I hope you’re all enjoying this season the best that you can! Remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and be safe!

How do you keep refreshed during the Summer? What changes do you make to your skincare routine during these hot months? Have you tried any of what I’ve listed? How did they turn out for you?
